The Nordic union of poetic disobedience & the alliance of performing arts

As a migrant within the Nordic region the first thing I noticed, apart from the vibrancy of the “Nordic summit for poets, translators, and publishers (31.8.-4.9.2022)” was inclusivity within such a diverse range of poets, performers, cultural organisers, translators, and multimedia artists. The summit acted as a vessel to skill share various practices and knowledges on poetry, multimedia practices, cultural endeavours, and translations. However, an underlying theme became evident as the majority of participants being of multi-cultural heritage. Woven through the summit were issues of isolation and the struggle of representation. Empowerment among the participants was already standard practice though and the excitement grew from there as we became witness to and part of a collective strength through connections and community through a variety of seminars, discussions, workshops, a panel discussions and performances. Nathalie Sallegren is an Australian spoken word artist based in Raseborg, Finland. British born/ French origin/ Papua New Guinean raised, writing and performing in a rhythmic Australian accent, where she spent her youth. Performing regularly in Finland, collaborating online in the UK, including recent feature set at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Online. Gnattie’s work dissects issues: examining culture-shock, migration and integration, isolation and disconnection and the vulgarity of small-mindedness. Trained at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in Perth. With a degree in English, experience within Academic libraries and a trained teacher Nathalie has a passion for sharing and enabling the greater joy of creativity. Miss Jane

Let me begin by first apologising to my Grade 11 & 12 Lit teacher (can’t remember her name), most of my uni lecturers, myself, my parents and Jane Eyre. At the time I was not ready to read too substantially in to a rich collection of “L”iterature en masse. I was dealing with shit that does not need to be expressed in detail here and managed what I could. Though Jane Eyre never let ‘shit’ get on top of her and for that I am truly grateful to Charlotte Bronté for giving me the opportunity to experience knowing her. Now, years later, I am ready to re-address & immerse myself in some key works and lavish them, appreciate, and consider them in the good stead in which they deserve. Having said that, this analysis is brief and produced without wider reading. I just felt so affected after reading I needed to produce my thoughts.
